Meet Khara Schonfeld
"Ties That Bind"

About Ties That Bind

Khara Schonfeld's "Ties That Bind" jewelry line is reconstructed art,
fusing vintage and new jewelry with secondhand neckties. The artworks
meld the media of fiber and jewelry, creating a balanced contrast
between the softness of fabric and the resilience of metal, stone or
plastic. By taking overlooked secondhand items and giving them new
life, this line also lessens impact on the environment. The memory and
sentiment of their previous function serves to enhance the new
creations, combining items once "tied" to masculinity as new artworks
for women.

About the Artist
Khara taught elementary art for seven years in Virginia, South Korea,
and Pennsylvania.  She attended James Madison University for her
undergraduate degree in art and graduate studies at Kutztown
University in art education.

Although she created art in her spare time for years, she recently
began creating and sharing her work with greater magnitude. As an
artist she draws inspiration from her strong ties to the natural
world.  She combines this with her faith in people's ability to
amplify the beauty of nature through art and all interpretation. As a
result her artwork entwines her gratitude for earth's gifts with human
playfulness to create new unique manifestations.
